Northern Route

We spent some time on dead end trails

but found some cool spots anyway

these guys helped out

they lead us to here, saving time.

In 1998 we followed FR 85 south.

But this time we went north.

Southern Route

It starts off with a windy little paved road with huge potholes and then shifts to a typical improved dirt/gravel road.

after only a few minutes of driving we stopped at this picnic site complete with barbeques and outhouses.

FR 85 goes to the left here. We followed it hoping to find a long trail along the mountain ridge. Now I think we should have taken the earlier trail to the left - maybe next time....

we took a few "short" sidetrails which were interesting but nothing difficult

But eventually we found this DEAD END. You can't see it in the pic but it is one of the typical earth berm trail stops. There is a little sign on the tree on the left officially declaring the trail closed.

there is this little lake to camp by at the end of the trail.

after retuning to the intersection of FR 85 and FR 32 we followed FR32 down the west side of the mountain just above this valley....

I believe this road goes back up the mountain but we didn't take the time to try it.

As so often happens these days we found the road to be closed !
